Planting trees to support the Woodland Trust
Caring for our planet by offsetting our carbon emissions is something we take very seriously.
So when we were invited to join the Woodland Trust to plant 600 trees in woodland in Devon as part of the Carbon Capture® programme, we were delighted to send a couple of keen representatives.
In February Rebecca Matthewman and Julian Purdy headed down to Yonder Oak Wood, a 134 acre woodland in East Devon, to join a group of 28 volunteers helping the Woodland Trust plant 600 saplings.
The Carbon Capture® programme mitigates the CO2 emissions from the production and distribution of paper and materials. 100% of the money it raises through the programme goes directly to the Woodland Trust to help them plant native woodland across the UK.
The Trust has grand plans to transform Yonder Oak Wood, including planting 13,000 trees to create a new wildlife home in Devon. Once completed the wood will become home to a rich array of wildlife, with the hope that species including nightjars, several threatened species of bat, the hazel dormouse, the dingy skipper butterfly, and a vast array of uncommon invertebrates will colonise the area. There are even plans to try and attract beavers to the woods from a nearby water source once it has been restored and revived.
The Woodland Trust is hugely dependent on the generosity and hard work of volunteers and it was our absolute pleasure to get involved. During the day the Trust educated the volunteer tree planters on the story of how they secured the site and the exciting plans they have for the wood.
Through the Carbon Capture® programme, 400,000 trees have already been planted across the UK, capturing 92,000 tonnes of CO2.
“Running days like these are a demonstration of the commitment our people have for the planet. Being able to invest in nature with the knowledge we are investing in future generations is a credit to our planters who are helping create a greener world. Watching newcomers and familiar faces bonding and planting trees together is always a highlight!”
