Furniture Case Study - St Mary’s University, Twickenham
Brief:
To space plan and supply a Refectory room to a leading University in the Greater London Area.
Scope:
Break-out Tables and Seating for 300+ Students.
Working alongside one of our specialist manufacturers Flexiform, we provided furniture in the main refectory at St Marys University. The brief required was simple – create a minimalist, industrial-style look, which accentuated the natural finishes of the raw materials. The brief required furniture to be resilient and durable to withstand the high footfall in a dining area, such as a busy refectory.
Having worked with Flexiform on a number of projects, we introduced St Mary’s University to the new Ferro benches. With the lacquer finish highlighting the natural imperfections and organic qualities of the raw materials, Ferro’s “organic” look suited the brief perfectly. After visits to our newly refitted showroom, and the provision of 3D renders, the facilities team at St Mary’s selected two contrasting finishes for the Ferro benches and requested them in both poseur and dining height. The University selected both White and Jackson Pine, 50mm laminate table tops, complemented by the raw metal work that is key to the look and style of the Ferro range.
To meet the University’s busy schedule and continued use of the refectory, installation and delivery was completed out of hours (overnight), ensuring that the refectory could maintain normal service without any closure. We allowed our manufacturing partner Flexiform to use their delivery team whilst we had a project manager on site to oversee the install. The seating was supplied from one of our Design led Italian manufacturers and installed by our team at the same time.
Overall we count this as an extremely successful install and are still in contact with the University to this day. Working with a customer who was keen to have a design led and practical area which could be doubled up as a refectory and informal meeting area was a real pleasure.
